our quest

Gary is on a quest for a black lab puppy. He has been researching breeders and dogs for months. We have decided on Moonlit Labradors in NY. Susan is awesome and so willing to work with us. We won't be ready for a puppy for a year or two, but during that time, we are going to work with Susan so that she knows what we want and what will suit our family best when the time does come. We want a puppy from Gosh. This is one of her first puppies just so you can see what they are like. When I saw this photo, my heart melted and I knew we had made the right decision in working with Susan. so our quest is finally over and the waiting begins.....

so sorry....

so sorry I have been MIA. what a crazy busy time. Got through Christmas relatively stress free this year. I quite enjoyed it all. We still have 1 more Christmas/New Year's to go.

A new year brings a new kit over at Pages in Time

here it is......isn't it pretty. who doesn't love to play with new Basic Grey? hurry over to get yours and the very nice add ons that Karen has selected.

don't tell anyone, but I did a layout this morning..... I had to. I am never too busy to squeeze a little scrapping in even if it has to be at 5am. here it is.....
isn't that paper gorgeous??? It is Paper Trunk and I give it 2 thumbs up. I am definitely going to find more gorgeous papers from this company

anybody else having a crazy busy month?

holy cow it's Nov 16 already. I knew it was going to be a tough month for me, since I am SO busy. Happily it is already 1/2 over. I was honoured to be asked by my manager at work to become our hospital's intrapartum labour support expert. I felt that was quite an honour. I was asked to join a task force and develop a workshop for new hires and preceptors the fine art of intrapartum labour support. I didn't realize the work that goes into a workshop. We have prepared for 7 months before with rolled our workshop out. whew, that was a ton of work. well, we are now 3 workshops in and I am loving it. I don't enjoy the 2.5 hour drive to one venue (1 way) but other than that, all is good. so I am doing these workshops this month (6 of them) and I am also the creative director for our unit's entry into the saftey expo at work too. I am doing all of this on top of working full time. I don't ever want to wish time away, but let me say right now, I will be happy when Dec comes and all I have to worry about is my full time shifts. better go and dive back into the piles of laundry that seem to be everywhere......

can you believe we are almost at the end of October?

wow, where did that month go? for me, it went by with me wishing for our hot tub to come. we used to sit out on the deck and dream about when it would come and how nice it would be. I can't believe how fast it all went.

I was at Jess' school yesterday as her very first client. She started her clinic time yesterday. I can't believe where all this time has gone too. it seems like just yesterday that we were headed into her school for the admissions interview and exam. She is almost done and ready to start her career as a dental hygienist.

take just a little time today to slow down and enjoy life. it is a wonderful thing and it's just whizzing by.

Saturday, October 24, 2009

ahhhh this is living

wow, we are having quite a time with the hot tub. even the night where it was spitting a little bit and was windy, we were in there.

want a chance to win?

go check this out

it's here

I just can't believe it. it seemed like we researched hot tubs for so long -it never felt real. Then once we ordered one, we were told minimum delivery was 4 wks. again, it seemed like forever. well, I called the store yesterday and was told it was in. the only problem was someone needed to get there to pay the balance and to take the chemical course. Gary was about an hour and a half away at work and I was about 45 minutes, but I had to work til 7:30 pm. Gary was able to cut out of work early and get there and get all the necessary bits done. it just so happens that I took vacation tonight so I am home. I am not home on Mondays or Wednesdays for about the next 3 wks when they are able to do deliveries and installs. I guess it was meant to be for today. they got it in the backyard (no easy feat.... it weighs 1100+ lbs dry) and situated where it needed to go and wouldn't you know the heavens opened and the rain started just as they were ready to hook up the electrical. we started filling it with water and the water was brown.... I don't mean off colour... I mean milk chocolate brown. of all days that they water mains get worked on why today? anyways, we drained out the first 8" that was filled and started again. good to see it all for when we need to drain it and do it again ourselves. I will update when the install is all done

it's Monday again.....

how did that happen?? Monday again and time to go back to work. I have a busy week -working Monday and Tuesday and I have to get ready for a meeting I have on Thursday. I am part of a group of nurses that is putting on workshops for other nurses (new hires and preceptors) on intrapartum labour support. I was asked by my manager if I wanted to be our hospital's labour support expert and I jumped at the opportunity. It is a bit unnerving at the moment. Thursday's meeting is the "dress rehersal" for the actually workshop that gets rolled out starting the beginning of November. It will be a crazy fun busy time for me as these workshops happen.

I scrapped a little yesterday.... it keeps me sane and grounded. The new DT will be announced very soon at S:CY..... wish me luck

my fairy name

so this is my fairy name

Your fairy is called Tangle Elfglitter
She is a cheerful sprite.
She lives at the bottom of tangled gardens and in hedgerows.
She is only seen in the light of a shooting star.
She wears tangled dresses of multicoloured petals. She has delicate green wings like a cicada.

Happy Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving everyone. I have so much to be thankful for. I have a wonderful family that I am truly blessed to have. My niece Cassidy competed in her very first horse show. She's 20 mths old. All of my siblings and my Dad came to support her. My other niece and nephew also competed. It was a great day and it was so nice that we were all together. It felt like it did 25 years ago when my sister and I were competing.

I hope you all have made many memories that you are thankful to have this weekend.

Sunday morning

so it's Sunday morning..... I love Sunday mornings. they are so laid back. I tend to get up early and get the doggies looked after then I surf around and usually get inspired to scrap. It is my favourite time of the day to scrap. (no distractions)This is what I was up to this morning

I have just finished a couple of shifts at work and I am going in for a couple of more nights starting tonight, so I like to just laze around today. see you on the other side of those shifts

Thursday, October 1, 2009

wahoo!!!

here is my great news. Jayme asked me to be guest designer at Scrapbooking Fanatics. how awesome is that?? Jayme keeps getting the latest and greatest product in and it goes pretty darn quick too. The gallery is full of wonderful talent and the forum is full of the nicest, most supportive people you could ever want to be around. and the icing to this big piece of yummy cake is that my dream layout has been chosen for layout of the day to boot. I am truly a lucky lady!!!

Wednesday, September 30, 2009

good afternoon!! another day has come and almost gone. There is a definite chill in the air. We actually turned on the furnace last night. it is nice to know there is that brand new furnace in the basement now that it's getting colder.

I have great news to share with you all, but you will have to wait 1 more day. (then I will be shouting from the rafters) until tomorrow, I will leave you with a layout that I made this morning.....

reality check

I saw a challenge to do a reality check and I think it's a great idea..... my world gets so busy that I forget what's really important.

1. work is work. I get great reward from assisting new life into this world and I think I do a damn fine job at it, but it is work. It is what pays the bills and I shouldn't get too high and mighty on myself.

2. being the mother of a 13 yr old boy calls for constant vigillance. he will test me at every corner and I should expect that. this is normal and it's what he (and I) need to go through.

3. I have the best kids in the world. they are the light in my life.

4. I couldn't have picked a better mate. He is smart, thoughtful and deeply caring.

5. yes, my family are pigs!

6. I love to be surrounded by action. that's why we have 3 dogs.

7. I have way too much scrapping stuff and I need to stop buying the latest and greatest and get using what I have already.

8. I have an addictive personality. I get a rush from shopping for scrapping stuff

9. I don't need to keep up with the Jones. I truly could care less about this.

10. I have a really awesome life and I shouldn't forget it.

the countdown is on

so we were told it would be a month to get the hot tub. wow, this is a long month. I came home from work Friday night and found Gary making stairs for the hot tub on my kitchen counter. the house smelled of cedar and it was nice (if I didn't look at the mess of it all) He had found a set of stairs that he liked on the internet and he printed out the picture and made them. He doesn't really do workworking other than making the decks but he did an amazing job and of course, it meant getting another tool for the ever growing pile of tools.... a jig saw. the top photo is the photo of the stairs that he built and the next one is the set of stairs that he found on the internet. he did an amazing job..... cant wait for the next week to fly by

wow, where did summer go?

here we sit and fall will be here in just a few short days. where did the summer go? I know, I am one of the few that enjoyed the cooler, wetter summer but still.... I am pumped for fall though. We are getting a hot tub. Gary researched for weeks and I called all over Southern Ontario speaking with salespeople (I hate doing that BTW) I learned that they don't listen to what the customer is asking. I think they have their own agendas and that's that. I would call up and ask about a certain model and they would try to sell me on a completely different one. the funniest part was, they were downselling. I was asking about the elite series of tubs and they would tell me about the series below it. any old hooo.... lesson learned.... I am just a stupid woman that didn't spend $14000 in your store buying a hot tub.

we went with an Artesian Piper Glen. it is fabulous and just right for us. The deck is getting stained today and we will be ready. the electrical just needs to be brought up through the deck, but Gary will do that as soon as they tell us where it is on the tub.

off to stain..... wish me luck LOL

we have a winner!

since it is September now, I decided that comment #9 was going to be the winner. Congratulations to Karensue. please send me all the deets and I will get a little something out to you

thanks to everyone that hopped on over to my blog. it was nice to hear from you all.

how's the hopping coming along?

how are you doing with TPP back to school blog hop? I am so happy to have hopped along and been so inspired. If you haven't completed the hop yet, see yesterday's post and get hoppin'.

We survived back to school shopping. There were only a few fights along the way. I learned that Ryan is a brand snob. geesh, he is 13 isn't he??. I think now that all is said and done, he is ready to go back to school on Tuesday. the only thing he really needs is a belt for the jeans so they don't sling around his butt. (hate that look BTW)

Jess had a little melt down this morning. It seems someone may have broken into her car last night and taken her backpack. if that's the case, they took 1/2 of her dental instruments with it. I sure hope not since that will be another $1000 we would have to come up with since she needs them for school. say a little prayer that she left them at school yesterday.

I've been busy

it's been a busy week around here. Jess got her wisdom teeth out on Monday and she has had a hard recovery time. She didn't swell too much and the bruising is very minimal... I am just seeing a little green around her lower jaw today. I noticed she was able to eat a little more today so that is an encouraging sign. She will go back to school on Monday.

I was able to get my stuff out today before work and I was inspired by a sketch over at http://skissedilla.blogspot.com/ I was ripping apart old pizza boxes and everything.... so fun!! it's a great site for tons of inspiration.... go check it out

Sunday, June 28, 2009

would you look at that, where have those 8 years gone? Ryan graduated on Wednesday.... he's on his way to highschool in September! I was inspired to make a layout using the sketch that Hayley has posted for the Saturday sketch challenge over at The Paper Passion. it was a great one and lended itself to interpretation very easily. gotta love those G45 papers.

the end of an era

today is Ryan's last day in grade 8. Where have those years gone? It seems like yesterday that I had to drive them every morning to school and now no more. My babies are growing up! Ryan is a little bit sad but a whole lot happy that today has finally come. I am a whole lot sad and a little bit happy LOL. His classes are picked for next year, although there is some debate about the 3 enriched classes he is enrolled in. I think it might be too heavy but we shall see.
Here's to an end of an era........

Happy anniversary honey!!!

today is my anniversary. I can't believe it's been 21 years already. where has the time gone. I am going to have a sappy moment here..... I am so lucky to have found such a wonderful guy and made him all my own. There have been some very interesting times that we have shared over the last 21 years and we have made it through them together. He makes me laugh everyday.... sometimes at the things he says and does and sometimes just because. I thank God for him. -I love you more today honey than ever. I am so glad that you asked me to skate that night in 1982..... who knew it would turn into something so amazing all these years later.

Funny this is our anniversary because it is also a blog hop over at The Paper Passion. The theme of the hop is to celebrate a special man in your life.... perfect theme for me huh? If you are part of the hop, you probably came from Hayley's blog - http://www.hayleycreates.blogspot.com. If I am your second stop on the hop you are probably looking to move on to Wendy's blog at http://www.wendysommers.blogspot.com

have fun and keep on hopping!!!

Happy birthday Jessica!!

I can't believe that my little girl is 19 today. Wow!! where did that time go? It has been quite a ride.... those 19 years. She is a wonderful young woman with such a bright future. We are so very proud of her. Happy birthday Jess

off I go again

just when I was feeling all caught up, I have to go back to work. alas, such is my life. I did get alot accomplished this week though and I am finally feeling that I am getting more done than just chasing my tail. We were able to go out and get Ryan his dress shoes for his graduation..... I ended up spending way more than I had wanted to.... since he will probably only wear them once and then out grow them.... but that's what I get for taking Gary with me shopping.

well, better run, work is calling

Saturday, June 13, 2009

here I am

well, I am on a roll, blogging 2 days in a row. there should be an award for that. LOL I am finally starting to feel sort of caught up. I thought I would post a layout that I made last year commemorating my daughter's graduation from highschool. Our family gets to celebrate another graduation this year.... Ryan is graduating from elementary school. He has is day already planned out. (who says it's the girls that do all the planning?) He asked his Dad to drive him to the venue in the Camaro. He will make quite an entrance when that rumbles in. He picked out his suit and his shirt and tie. He chose red on red for shirt and tie colour because red is a power colour. (I kid you not) He looks very handsome all dressed up and I can't wait for the day!!

bad blogger!

I am such a bad blogger..... no posts in forever. my bad!! I have had an incredibly busy week. I was lucky enough to get to Ottawa for a nursing conference last Wednesday. The conference was great (although I did crack a tooth and need a crown now). We stayed with my good friend Lee Ann. It was so nice to catch up since I hadn't been down in 2 yrs. I was very lucky to be able to meet Rosa and a bunch of girls from The Paper Passion. Rosa is so talented when it comes to refinishing wooden pieces of furniture.... my favourite is a fireplace mantle that she has done.

it has been a whirlwind of activity since I got home. I was able to get to the drag races and see an armdrop live .... don't know what that is? It is drag racing with someone standing between the cars and dropping their arms and the cars racing.... it was fun. I have been to a fishing derby as well. Alas, no fish for me that day. I did 3 night shifts, did dog class and took a reluctant 13 yr old out to get a suit for his graduation. For the record, Ryan looks incredibly handsome (I got in trouble for calling him cute) in his suit.

I went to a workshop yesterday in Toronto about intrapartum labour support. I am part of a task force to teach and foster nursing support for women in labour. I am incredibly fired up about this. As I see it, we in the healthcare field, have moved to the high tech end of the continuum and we need to shift it back to the basics and provide good nursing care during labour and reduce unneeded interventions. We need to advocate for our patients and champion the rights of women. I look forward to being able to teach these concepts to others around the West Cluster and fire them up about it too!!

well, since today and tomorrow are my only days to myself, I better get going.......

wanna be the next GDT at The Paper Passion?

I have has such a fun time over the last month and a bit working with Rosa and Hayley. These ladies have made my time as the GDT fun and amazingly inspiring. I got to be inspired by so many over at The Paper Passion. I am sad to see my time coming to an end..... but the end of my time means the beginning of a new term for not 1 but 2 people. Applying is easy..... head over to http://thepaperpassion.typepad.com/ and check out all the deets..... good luck!

just one more sleep

I am so lucky. just one more sleep and I get to meet lots of people that I have been talking with at The Paper Passion forums for the past few months. I am so excited words can not describe. Rosa from the Paper Passion is holding a little party at the store so we can all get together. If you are free, and are in the Ottawa area tomorrow night, The Paper Passion store is the place to be!!

I am also excited about getting to hang with my old friend Lee Ann. I have missed her. It is going to be a crazy 2 1/2 days in the nation's capital.

thought I would share a few layouts that I have been working on lately.... cute huh?
gotta love the June Cherry Hill kit at TPP

the new June kit at TPP

I was very lucky to be able to play with the new June kit from the Paper Passion. It featured October Afternoon Cherry Hill papers and all sorts of yummy embellishments.

I hear the kit will be released very soon. I can't wait to see the extra add ons that there are for the kit too.

I am finally a happy girl

what a busy few weeks it's been. between work and.... well, work, I have had the stuffing knocked out of me. I have realized that the answer to me feeling bad (besides about 14 hours of uninterupted sleep)is to create some scrapbook pages. I was lucky enough to be sent the June Paper Passion kit (oh yeah baby, can you say cherry hill by October Afternoon?) That kit was what I needed to snap me right out of my funk. I think the kit is going to be released on Saturday. I can't show you anything I did with the kit yet.... but I will very soon. for now, how about this simple LO that I did of my FIL. even though the photo isn't focused, it makes me laugh everytime I see it. I love that photo. I think we would all be a little bit better off if we could really laugh more don't you?

where is the month going?

it seems all I am doing these days is working and recovering from work. my goodness! it doesn't help that we are having a baby boom where I work either. holy cow, you just wouldn't believe it if I told you.

I am determined to get some work done with the new June kit from The Paper Passion. Rosa sent it to me this week and it is so yummy. I was lucky enough to get a little work done with some Jillibean soup. it is really a fun line and much easier to work with than I thought at first. See all the white space? that was for a fun challenge at The Paper Passion... come check it out and play with us.
well, I am off.... hopefully it won't be so long until the next installment here......

just a few more days

just a another day or 2 to get all your creations into The Paper Passion's very first crop. wow there were so many challenges. There was something there to appeal to everyone.

last night I went to an annual plant sale. I went with my brother and sister in law and my niece Cassidy. Although we got more last year, this year was good and I stocked up on alliums and another fern leaf peony and I even got a nice gift for my mother in law for when we go to visit next weekend. It's a date for next year's sale!!

OMG I won!!!

remember I posted about the guest designer at the Paper Passion??? I am so thrilled and honoured to have been picked. I am SO excited to work with these ladies. It is pretty exciting to be at such a nice site working with such talented people. oh, did I mention the store??? I swear on a pile of smarties that this store has the cheapest prices I have ever seen either brick and mortar or on line..... this might be a bad thing too :)

come on over and check out The Paper Passion and tell Rosa that Jenn sent ya!!

and the winner is......

it's May 1st. that date makes me very excited. I love May!! My garden comes back to life and that is one of my big passions. I wander about looking for life and I am amazed every year that the plants have returned. We have lots of maples on our little property and I love watching them come back to life too. Hubby planted an oak last fall and I am really excited to see that come back to life. I am not familiar with how oaks start in the spring so I go out and check the oak tree all the time for signs of life. The photo is of hubby and my brother planting the oak last fall. it was a really big tree to plant.... probably the biggest we have planted so far..... man, we love a challenge don't we! I am such a country girl at heart!!

May 1st has me excited for another reason..... the guest designer contest closed last night at the Paper Passion and is being announced today. I applied..... wish me luck!! they are a great group of girls and whoever gets to be their guest designer for the next 2 months is increadibly fortunate. The first ever crop is also starting today at the Paper Passion..... you gotta check it out.... it is going to be soooooo much fun.

it's the end of the weekend again

weekends really don't mean much to me in the job that I do. I am far more concerned about my schedule and where it falls compared to when everyone is at home. I have been busy getting all the missed housework caught up.... where does all that laundry come from? I am really hoping the boys will go out and leave me alone today so I can turn up the tunes and play with my paper.

a new day

I am an early riser. I admit it! there is nothing better than getting up early and getting my kitchen all cleaned up, grabbing a cup of tea and checking the recent developments at The Paper Passion..... The Paper Passion is rapidly becoming my passion. I find myself drawn there as everyone is so nice and the prices in the store are the best I have ever seen!!! I wish I could check out the cart I have there now (my husband would kill me)

I am lucky enough to scrap in the morning after the kids go to school -I am definitely a daytime scraper. I am most happy when I can get at least a bit of scraping done in the day. here's hoping today is a good day!!
